Sirius visits me.

There's a nip in the air tonight that wasn't there yesterday or the day before. My honeysuckles sway in the crisp breeze...they won't be here for long now though. Soon I'll have to put my garden to sleep for the winter. Hopefully when  it reawakens next spring the daffodil bulbs that I have planted will be in full bloom, as will be my Irises. I must remember to cover up my poor, poor gnomes.
For now its me and 5 months of bleak, grey skies. Winter has always been my favourite of the four seasons. But this year, I just don't seem to be prepared for it. This year, I don't seem to be prepared for anything really.
Oh, I just noticed what a gorgeous, clear sky it is this evening. A massive canopy of inky blackness, splattered with a generous sprinkling of diamonds. And there it is - my most precious diamond of all. Shimmering shamelessly, it engulfs me with its scintillating beauty.
I remember the countless hours that I spent as a little girl, glued to the windows in my bedroom, straining my neck to catch a glimpse of Sirius. Some times I would get lucky, oft I wouldn't.
But tonight it seems to be here for me. Only me. The whole world goes on with its mundane chores. Natalie, my neighbour, calls out to her cat (my darling gnomes' arch enemy), a dinner party in the house adjacent ours gets a little rowdy, a police car whizzes past...but Sirius and I look at each other.
Like old times...for old times.
Suneel comes to tell me that one my favourite shows is on tv...I get up to leave. As I turn to look back, Sirius seems to wink at me.
I wink back.
